This is a very complicated topic in my mind. The short answer would be, no. However I believe there are a lot of other factors to consider.

There are a lot of facets of life I cannot control. What job is willing to hire me, where I end up living, if my first future child is a boy or girl, etc. It isn’t possible to accurately predict where I’ll end up in life. In a way, fate has its own way of altering my future despite all of my plans. Very few people actually have the chance to meet their soulmate, yet I ended up meeting mine in middle school before moving in with her years later. Now we’re dating and happier than ever!

I still believe that life offers choices, despite how fate or destiny interferes, we always hold the choice to follow it or fight. My entire life I was pushed for a specific career path and lifestyle. I was pushed to get a degree and a “real job” with benefits. I spent my entire life fighting my “destiny” so I could be the person I am today. It’s still a major battle I have to fight to make all of my dreams happen. No matter how stressful life gets or how unmotivated I get, I choose to keep fighting for my passions. Fate or destiny may have me give up and settle for something simpler or easier, but I choose to fight for what I want in life.

While I believe life can bring me many things I cannot control, like my current home and soulmate, I don’t believe fate dictates my life. If it is real, I refuse to follow everything it tells me. Life isn’t about what’s handed to you through fate or destiny. Life is about making the best of what you have and charting your own course. Life is fighting for everything you believe in and following your heart and dreams. Life is doing everything you can to change what you believe needs changing. Life is ignoring every negative thought telling you you can’t and fighting to prove it is possible! Fate only allows you to follow what the universe gives you. Everything worth having, is worth fighting for.
