Comforts in a Cup

What is your favorite drink?

I actually have a few drinks I like. I’m fond of an ice cold drink to help me wake up and feel refreshed. However, I occasionally like a warm cup of tea or cocoa.

My favorite drink has been a cold cup of sweet tea. I grew up in the South, so sweet tea was basically everywhere I went. My mother preferred we brewed our own pitcher of sweet tea since she primarily drank unsweet. My mother’s caffeine addiction is mainly satisfied by drinking tea. I’m addicted to sugar, but I try to find other ways to satisfy my sweet tooth without the calories.

After moving out, I started to drink more water (I prefer my water with ice in it) but in my apartment we all have our own sodas. I drink Zero sugar sodas like Coke Zero or Pepsi Zero, but my favorite is Coke Zero Vanilla. I always have a few in the fridge, but it’s hard to come by since they’re so popular. I always buy a box or two whenever I find one in the store!

Whenever I feel sick, I like to drink warm tea to ease my sore throat. I like a good peppermint tea with a little sugar. Recently, I’ve been using Monk fruit instead of can sugar though. Sometimes, I’ll use honey instead. For an upset stomach, I drink Sprite or Ginger ale.

Hot cocoa takes me back to snowy days with my siblings. On a cold winter, it’s nice to relax with a cup of cocoa. My brother found many ways to spruce it up by adding extra mix and toasted marshmallows and chocolate shavings on top! Then he’d throw in a candy cane to give it a little extra flavor. I found using coffee syrups also give cocoa an extra boost! I prefer caramel though!

  1. I spent 20 years in The South and finding unsweet tea was not easy unless I brewed my own. 🙂 Whenever I went out I had to ask for it specifically and hoped they had it. Y’all’s sweet tea is… sweet. ^_^

    1. It depends on where you get it. Some places used liquid sugar and others used real sugar. Liquid sugar is something else and it’s nasty

      1. I had friends who would get, for example, sweet tea from McDonalds and would add sugar because it wasn’t sweet enough. This was in Mississippi.

I suppose that when one drinks unsweet tea, anything with sugar tastes too sweet, so there’s that. 🙂

      2. Yeah, sugar is like an addiction. The more you have the more you need.
