There are a lot of different ways I can improve my life. Most of them feel like small things and they are things I’ve done in the past but they are difficult for me to maintain. Whenever I start to reach burnout, it feels nearly impossible to even get out of bed, much less take care of myself. Most of what I need requires multiple steps or even help from other people to keep me on track! But if I had to choose one small thing to start with and maintain to improve my life, I think I’d choose yoga.
Yoga is a great way to get the body moving and stretch out my muscles. I tend to sit a lot working on my art and writing which isn’t good for my back or shoulders. Once a month, I go to the chiropractor to adjust my spine and hips again, but I still feel pain in my hips, back, shoulders, and neck. Stretching my body should help a lot in reduces aches and pains.
In the mornings, I tend to reach for my phone first when I wake up, which means I spend an extra hour or more just sitting in bed playing games or watching videos. If I can get myself to roll out of bed and do some yoga first thing in the morning, it would help a lot in allowing myself to slowly wake up and loosen my muscles to prepare for the day. Hopefully, it will get me off my phone long enough to allow my mind to mentally prepare for the day and force me to drink more water.
While it doesn’t get the blood pumping, it can help tone the body. I do need to lose weight, and it’s hard to keep up with diets and exercise. Yoga won’t help me lose weight, but it’ll at least get me moving. It might help me feel motivated to do some other form of exercise later in the day! I do take walks almost every day, but it isn’t the same as actual cardio. Doing exercise helps me feel motivated to focus on a healthier diet. At least, eating from home rather than fast food every day.
While yoga can’t fix my life, it can make enough positive impacts to start me on a healthier path. I need to start getting out of bed instead of just lazing around, I need to get my body moving so I have more energy for the day, and I need to feel like I’m actually doing something to better myself. I have some yoga DVDs, the WiiFit has some yoga options, and if nothing else I can look up a YouTube video to guide me! I do hope to make this change sooner rather than later so I can, in fact, improve my life.
