What books do you want to read?
My favorite genre has always been fiction; more specifically, fantasy.
My favorite author is Garth Nix. He is particularly good at bringing his worlds to life. He builds an adventure that leaves me hanging with every word. I can never put down his books until I finish it. I have read two of his series: The Keys to the Kingdom and The Seventh Tower. I would like to try another one of his series: The Old Kingdom. Honestly, I don’t know much about the series itself but I know Garth Nix so, it holds my interest.
I watched Ready Player One in theatres with my family. Since then, I’ve been interested in reading the book. I really enjoyed the movie and it’s something I’d love to watch again, but I’m excited to see what the original story holds and what wasn’t put in the movie! My father got me the second book, Ready Player Two for Christmas but I refuse to read it until I have finished the first one. He really thought having seen the movie was enough to enjoy the sequel book.
In my sophmore year of high school, my art class watched Howl’s Moving Castle and after hearing it was a book, I became intrigued. I don’t remember much about the movie, so I believe it would be an interesting read to rediscover. My teacher did mention some about what the book adds to the original story and I’m eager to see it.
The Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children series left me trapped in its world until I finished reading it. The movie was rather disappointing, by the way. I couldn’t put the books down until I finished them, reading them every spare second I had between and during classes. I recently discovered Ransom Riggs added more novels to the series which I have yet to read, but I did manage to find one of the new novels in a used book store! My girlfriend also found me a graphic novel of the first book!
I would also like to read some popular classic series like The Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings, Eragon, and The Wheel of Time. I also think reading books such as Dante’s Inferno would be a good experience for an up-and-coming writer like myself. I hear a lot about all of these series and I believe it’s important to experience the popular classics. How can I really call myself a writer if I don’t know the classics? I keep trying to get into Eragon but I keep dropping off around the beginning of the second book.
However, I have currently been rediscovering old books I loved when I was younger. I have almost no memory of The Land of Elyon other than I was obsessed with it for a good time. It wasn’t until a couple of months ago when I randomly had a dream about it and looked up the book that I remembered why. There are four books in the series and a prequel which I remember better than the main series for some reason. I also intend to reread the Percy Jackson series as well as go over the newer Heros of Olympus series.
This isn’t particularly fiction, but I do want to grow as a writer! I have a lot of books meant to help me grow as a writer! I have one about character development, grammar, self editing exercises, and some of just prompts and exercises! Despite not being in college, I still want to hone my craft however I can! I want to finishing reading the book on character development and the self editing exercises! Currently, I’m sifting through a book of prompts to practice my writing which end up as the short stories I post here!
None of those really cover the large note in my phone with pictures of books I find interesting from libraries and stores. I’ve also bought a huge collection of books from used bookstores and charity sales! My bookshelves are full of books I haven’t read yet. I just haven’t had the time to read all of them yet!
