Car Alarms Suck Sometimes

Daily writing prompt
Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

I try to be kind whenever I can. I don’t want to talk about everything I’ve done because I feel that negates the purpose of doing something kind. I could talk about all the random kind acts my girlfriend and I do for each other like buying each other our favorite sodas or random treats. However, I do have one recent story I’d like to share. I’m not sure if it was a particularly kind act, but I’d like to think it was.

I went to the gas station the other day to grab some sort of quick lunch before work. After putting everything in my car, I heard the car alarm go off on a van a couple spots from mine. Inside the car were three girls who all appeared to be under ten years old. It was clearly an accident and they were all freaking out and covering their ears. I was already in my car but I knew they were probably scared and just wanted the noise to stop. So, I got out of the car and told them to lock the door. They told me it was already locked and then described their dad to me.

I went back into the gas station where I found the man waiting for his food. I walked up and asked if he had three little girls in a van out front and when he confirmed I explained the situation. I watched his stuff while he went out to help them. It didn’t take long, only a few minutes, before he returned. Apparently, the girls had unlocked the car and manually locked it again instead of using the buttons and that set off the alarm. I simply went back to my car, waved to the girls in the now silent car, and went on my way to work.
