My girlfriend and I have discussed this idea for if we ever manage to get a house. My girlfriend has worked in a library for almost a decade now, all through high school and college and to the present day, and she loves collecting books. She has about eight bookshelves in her room and it isn’t enough to hold all the books she has. She also wants to organize them alphabetically by category like in a library. One day, she wants to have her own personal library. I dream mostly of having the perfect office to work on all of our writing and art projects while still having some space for gaming.
The perfect office space will have multiple desks. I, personally, would like to have a standing desk so I’m not hunching over my screen all day. We might even have our small trampoline in the room for whenever we get fidgety and need to move instead of sitting all day. There will be lots of shelves and cabinets to organize all of our art supplies. I’d like to decorate my space with a shelf of my favorite fandom stuff, anything TMNT. The multiple desks would be for different projects. We need at least two desks for art projects, one desk strictly for working on our laptops, and maybe one for gaming and editing in case I ever get back into YouTubing. While I don’t mind gaming in a public space, if I’m recording, I’d like to do so in a private room I can soundproof. I’d have plenty of cameras and recording software to record speed draws on my laptop or any other art I want to share on TikTok and shorts. It’d also be nice if we had some space for the kids to join us and do homework while we’re working, but that depends on how much space we have.
The library will have to be a separate room. My girlfriend’s obsession with books might fill the room quickly with more bookshelves than we can fit in the room. It would be nice to have some small beanbag chairs or other comfortable seats to just sit and enjoy reading in the quiet room, but that depends on what we can fit through the maze of shelves. No, I am not exaggerating, anyone obsessed with physical books knows this is true. My girlfriend will keep everything organized and even wants to label the books so they’re easier to reshelf in their proper space. I will let her organize my books into the mix once we have a space for all of them to exist, but for now my books stay in my room where there’s space for them, mostly.
The likelihood of us getting a house in general is low, let alone one that can support two extra rooms for books and an office since we do want to have kids. It’s still fun to dream about the perfect spaces to hold all our favorite things and work. Having ADHD means it’s hard to focus on work and we need to take certain steps to create the perfect working environment. The only reason I’ve been able to keep up with my blog so far is because I set up a routine and a brand new space to work, which is just the dining room table. Since I don’t usually just sit at the dining room table playing on my phone or playing video games, it’s the perfect space to feel ready to work on my work laptop. Even just having specific desks designated for working helps a lot and I do really hope one day I can achieve that!
