Cynical Voting

Do you vote in political elections?

I try to vote when I can, though I’m often working all day during election day since schools take off that day. I prefer to be well informed before making any decisions. Most of the ads I see are biased so they don’t hold all of the facts I need to make a proper choice. It’s kind of hard to find websites that have all the information I need. My girlfriend did find one website that gives a brief overview of the local candidates and what their positions on certain topics are so we can go in prepared!

In general, I dislike America politics because they make it so difficult for the common folk to understand what’s happening. Most politicians have a degree in politics or some sort of experience before running. With a two party system, most of the candidates tend to be far left or far right where the common person is somewhere in the middle. I don’t consider myself either party! I agree and disagree with both. Obviously I believe in gay marriage and rights, but I also think nuclear power has its benefits if handled correctly. I grew up in a conservative environment and my parents are mostly Republican because they support nuclear power and my dad is a nuclear engineer! However, if I want to keep my rights to marry the love of my life, I have to vote Democrat, even if I don’t support everything they do. It just makes voting in general very messy and annoying since it’s often just picking the candidate who will do the least damage to our country.

I tend to dislike politics in general, but I know I should cast my vote since every voice counts, even if my country is a long way from fair politics.
