Her hands shook as she reapplied her wine red lipstick, nervously staring at her reflection in the mirror to be sure she looked perfect. Her lashes were now thick and wide like wings ready to lift her to the clouds. Dabbing at a few mistakes around her plump lips, she stared at a flawless face, skin smooth with a small amount of blush darkening her chocolate cheeks. Her black hair fell in frizzy tight curls around her, puffing in various directions with volume just the way she liked it. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves, glancing down at her beautiful silky smooth white dress, a low cut with a fabric matching her skin tone sewn inside for modesty, thick off shoulder sleeves, and a long skirt with a high leg slit. It was hard not to feel like a princess as she finished her look with some dangling red earrings. Her appearance did little to quell her nerves. It was such a wonderful day she’d been looking forward to for years, and yet she found herself shaking.
Taking a deep breath, she listened to the music outside. It was beginning soon. Grabbing a small bouquet of flowers, she left the small room meeting the eyes of all her close friends and family as she walked down the path in the middle of the gardenscape to an archway. There, she met eyes with the love of her life. She wore a sleeveless ornate dress with a beautiful floral lace. Her colorful tattoos were exposed against her dark skin adding a beautiful pop of color. She wore a gold chain necklace with beautiful white jewels, like pearls shining against her chest. A small white veil sat atop her dark loose curls leaning toward the right half of her head. The two couldn’t help but smile, all nerves melting in each other’s gaze.
The ceremony began, birds singing in the distance as the officiant spoke. The moment left her nearly breathless as she stared into the shining brown eyes of her love. The time to exchange vows came and she pulled out a small slip of paper with trembling hands before glancing up at her beautiful bride. The world seemed to slip away, leaving only them as she read the words on that paper. “My love, when we met I didn’t know what love truly felt like. It’s safety. It’s comfort. It’s home with you. You are my entire world and I promise to remind you everyday just how much you mean to me. Thank you for being there for me all these years and never giving up on me. Life has meaning when you’re there. And I’ll love you forever.” Tears welled in her eyes as the ceremony continued. Before she knew it, they exchanged their first kiss as a married couple. Her heart soared among the clouds as they embraced. She felt like a kid on Christmas all over again, too excited to stop moving.
Clapping erupted around them as they made their way back down the aisle. They led the way to the buffet and everyone sat down under the clear azure sky to eat and talk. Laughter and conversation floated around them as they stared into each other’s eyes. A grin spread across their faces as they let out a small laugh of their own, too happy to contain themselves. A while after everyone ate they cut the cake. It was a beautiful three tier cake with white frosting and beautiful floral decor going down the sides. They worked together to slice through the top and place a slice onto a small clean plate. After feeding each other a piece, everyone else lined up to get a slice for themselves. After cake, they made their way to the clear section from the tables, ready for their first dance.
Music played in the background as they danced, grinning and laughing as the world seemed to stop around them. A gentle breeze wove through their hair as they slowly spun through the grass. Small lights flickered to life as the sun began its descent, the sky fading into a deep orange like the fiery passion of their love. The world’s melody shifted from singing birds to chirping crickets as fireflies pulsed in the darkening sky. Everything was absolutely perfect.
Once the event was over and done, the happy couple went home with cheerful farewells and a pile of gifts. As they cuddled in their bed and began drifting to sleep, her mind went over the day they just had. She couldn’t wait for the photographer to send them their wedding photos. Their wedding. Their beautiful wedding. She officially had the most wonderful woman in her life and they wed on the most beautiful perfect day.
