A Happy Old Life

Daily writing prompt
How do you want to retire?

Retirement is still quite a ways away for me. I’m currently only 23 years old. My current life plans are about my wedding, my future house and kids, and starting my writing career. I tend to focus more on my immediate goals rather than what’s far in the future since it isn’t as pressing, so it took a little while for me to come up with an answer to this.

Recently, my brother has discussed creating a short of family homestead in which all of us siblings and our spouses can work together and have our own sort of community. My girlfriend loves this idea! She wants her own garden and chickens. I’m not big on the outdoors but I wouldn’t mind helping out from time to time. I think it sounds like a nice dream to have some land close to family to live on as we grow older. We already know my mother will love to live there once she retires; however, we aren’t sure if our dad will like it.

I hope by the time I do retire, I will have children who are fully grown and experiencing the world for themselves! Most importantly, I hope to have grandchildren by then to spoil. My family has a history of going by “Mimi” and I think I’d like to carry that tradition for my grandkids. Once my children move out, I can turn their old rooms into guest rooms so they can visit with their kids at any time!

Once I’ve reached the age to retire, I would like to have enough money that I can just focus on continuing to write novels. I have a lot of writing projects I’m working on now, but I’m still young and have plenty of time to focus on my writing career. Hopefully, I’ll be earning some passive income from my past projects which will allow me time to just focus on writing novels or other small things! I love writing and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon, but it will be nice to have plenty of time to write at my own pace and enjoy the stories.
