This may seem a bit cliche, but I think creativity does get better with age as long as it’s nurtured! I’ve definitely grown a lot since I was younger and my writing and art is a lot more complex while making a lot more sense!
As a kid, I remember having all these ideas for adventures that I later wanted to turn into stories! Most of them weren’t bad ideas, but looking back on them now, they were a lot of overused crap. Just looking at the novel I wrote in 2016, my style has changed so much and I’ve managed to fix a lot of plot holes! Yes, I had a lot of crazy ideas as a kid, but I have just as many unique and interesting ideas now that I’ve gotten much better at conveying. I used to write the plots way too fast and it caused the story to suffer. Now, I’ve gotten better at just marinating in the character’s and letting their thoughts and actions slowly drive the story rather than forcing the entire plot on them all at once.
My art has gotten a lot better over the years with a lot of practice and copying what I see from other artists! I’ve started adding more depth with shading and cleaner lines. It helps having an art tablet rather than just using my mouse, but practice helps a lot too! I also have a lot cooler ideas and a better understanding of how to make that idea happen. Drawing dragons have always been difficult for me because I can’t just find a real dragon to draw. But I have found if I study the anatomy of reptiles and birds a little more, I can find my own style for dragons! It takes a lot of work to learn new things, but it’s worth it in the end! Finding different ways to sketch and shape my characters so I can do more poses and designs!
Overall, my creative pieces have gotten a lot better as I’ve aged because of my experience and knowledge. We as people grow better with age because we have more mistakes to learn from. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I can measure this by where I’ve been.
