A Joyful Discussion

Daily writing prompt
Describe one habit that brings you joy.

I have a lot of small habits in my day to day life that I often forget. Not all of my habits are particularly fun, for example I chew on my finger nails and on the skin around my fingers which sometimes leads to bleeding. Some of my habits are just OCD rituals I can’t seem to shake. However, there are a few habits I take great joy in doing. My favorite might be info dumping to anyone who will listen, but mostly my girlfriend.

Info dumping in the neurodivergent community is simply discussing the latest passion or hyper-fixation often in great detail. There is a lot of activity in my brain constantly rushing around and whenever I get stuck on one particular topic, it really helps to discuss it with someone before I explode. Most of the time, I’m discussing the latest story idea or concept I’m developing. I get very proud of all of the hard work I’ve put into each story and I love to share just how much I’ve managed to do at any given time. It also helps me flesh out my ideas by discussing them with someone else, even if they don’t have any input to add. Discussing my works also helps me stay focused so I can actually continue work by discussing how much I’ve done and how far I have left to go. It’s almost like a reward system, it doesn’t take much to make me feel accomplished and feel excited to continue working!

I also enjoy talking about whatever show or book I’m invested in and the community involved. I recently found the TMNT fandom and I’m been invested for months. I grew up on TMNT and to find a community of people who also enjoy it really helps me find a place I can belong. While I can easily discuss these topics online with the fandom, I tend to also tell my girlfriend about what’s going on in the shows and the fandom because it’s exciting and I love it!

Talking about what’s on my mind helps me streamline everything going on in my head so I’m not obsessing as much over it and allows me to continue with my next thoughts. It allows me to get work done and helps me feel closer to the people I’m talking to. In the end, it just makes me happy to talk to others about my latest works and obsessions.
