While I do enjoy the occasional grand romantic gesture, I prefer the little things in life. What I have with my girlfriend is my favorite and safest form of love and romance.
My girlfriend and I are introverts so when we go on dates, we prefer to stay indoors or do something small with just the two of us. We like to go out to eat on occasion and spend money on each other but we’re perfectly happy cooking for each other and watching a movie at home. I like cooking more than she does, but since I don’t get home from work until closer to eight or nine, she’s been cooking dinner recently. I try to cook on the days I can by either prepping most of it or just cooking the days I have off. If neither of us have the executive function to cook, we just whip up something quick.
I love how I can always turn to her to get whatever I need with no questions or judgments. If I ever need a hug, I just have to walk up with my arms out and she’ll provide. If I can’t handle the noise, I can leave whenever I want. I feel safe to just be myself and do what helps me be my best and happy self.
My favorite part, and probably the most romantic gesture, she’s always getting me little gifts. We don’t spend a lot of money on each other for birthdays or holidays because we get each other small things when we find them because we know it’ll make the other excited! I’ve recently been on a huge TMNT kick and she’s been finding all kinds of cool stuff: DVD’s, cups, stickers, etc! I don’t shop as often as she does, but I get so excited when I find things like this felt cat figurine that turns into a pen! She’s so excited for it! We like to just surprise each other with small things we know the other will enjoy!
