If I could get my cat to just understand one thing it’d be that sometimes, I just don’t like to be touched. I still love Max very much, he’s a very sweet cat! He’s very needy sometimes and wants snuggles a lot. I don’t mind snuggling my cat, but sometimes I just need some space because I’m having a sensory overload or I just showered and don’t want to be touched. I wish I could explain that I don’t hate him, I’m not mad at him, and I still love him very much, I just can’t handle being touched right now.
I also need him to understand that not every moment I’m laying on the ground is a good snuggling moment. Sometimes, I’m working out and need him to stay off of me. It is not safe for him to be rubbing against my feet or climbing at me at this moment, but after a bit I can get to him. Sometimes, I just need some space or me time. I cannot always snuggle my cat because I have things I need to do.
If nothing else, I would want him to understand that he cannot follow us into the basement. It is not safe for a cat to wander! I live in an apartment of sorts and the basement has a lot of heavy and dangerous equipment for the construction workers doing whatever they’re doing, motorcycles, and lawn care. It’s a very large and unfinished basement meant primarily for storage and projects. Max is a very curious cat and loves being able to explore different areas. He tries to escape the house whenever we open the door, which isn’t the worst problem since he tends to stay near the house, but the basement is a different story entirely.
