Moving Daily

Daily writing prompt
Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

As my schedule grew more crazy, it became a lot harder to maintain the habits I tried to build. Now that my schedule is settling a little more, I am trying to rebuild healthy habits. It only takes a few small additions to create a foundation for a healthier lifestyle. I would like to incorporate exercise to my daily life, but that can be hard with my hours.

Working two jobs, I tried to take a few moments to exercise between shifts. We have a Wii Fit at my house and it’s a fun way to exercise. It has fun games and more deliberate exercises like strength training and yoga poses. While I haven’t actually touched my Wii Fit in months, I do intend to go back. Currently, I am babysitting from 9-5. I like my work, but it doesn’t leave much room for outside activities alone in the house. I don’t like doing deliberate exercise where someone can watch me. While I know my girlfriend will give me time and space to do what I want or need, I prefer to spend my evenings decompressing from a long day.

The mother of the child I work with, got a membership at the local fitness center for the family. Her kids love going to the pool! While it isn’t the exercise I usually go for, swimming is still very good for the body! Her kids have fun, and I still manage to get some sort of daily activity! On Sunday’s I try to take the kid for a walk around the neighborhood. Recently with the heat, she hasn’t been as fond of going for walks. I still manage to get her to spend some time outdoors though!

My only issue is Saturdays. I could easily spend that time working out with the Wii Fit, but I haven’t been motivated yet. My girlfriend works on some Saturdays so that isn’t the issue, I just prefer sleeping in and doing my puzzles or games instead! It’s still a process, but I am sure with enough time and pushing, I can manage to establish this new routine!
