Milestone in Hope

Seven years ago today, I started my novel, Hope. Since then, I’ve rewritten it completely at least three times, not including going over the entire book and editing. I have only managed to finish writing one draft before rewriting it, and that was the first. Yet, I am proud of how far the book has come. I recently decided to enter the first three chapters in a fellowship. I have no idea how it will do, but I am excited to find out!

I began this story when I was fifteen, the same week I fractured my leg, actually! The next day, I managed to write eighteen pages! I shared the story with my friends who loved it! They really helped push me to keep going in my writing with their excitement for the next chapter. While editing is harder to push myself to do and without being in school with friends to push me as much, the process is a lot slower. I still have one friend constantly asking me what comes next and helping me develop the story and I could not do any of this without her! She’s been my number one fan since day one and I’m incredibly lucky to have her as a friend!

This story has been my pride and joy for years. I created a world full of magical creatures and difficult situations. A war developed from fear in misunderstandings. An alliance formed hundreds of years ago leads to distrust from those not included, eventually leading to full-on discontent and fighting across the realms.

Hope begins with a teenage girl, Lysera, and her mother, both originally from the magical realms, taking refuge in the Human realm. Upon being discovered by the wrong crowd, they are forced to move, again. When her mother brings in a mysterious man from her past, Sera discovers her mother has been keeping important secrets about her role in the overall struggle for peace. Before long, Sera finds herself wrapped up in the center of the ongoing war between the races; meeting many new faces along the way claiming to know how to help her. Only Sera can distinguish who to trust.

I am currently planning to enter this story into a fellowship. I am not sure how well this story will do, but I at least have confidence I gave it my all. In the spirit of all of the hard work I’ve put into this story these years, I plan to open a new page on my blog to discuss the various aspects of my story and the world surrounding it!
