As much as I would like to say no, there are some phrases the universe seems to take as a challenge. While I don’t believe in most superstitions like black cats are bad luck, which side you find the penny is lucky or unlucky, or even in any sort of tarot card readings or astrology, I do know that for some reason, some phrases just trigger bad luck.

As someone who’s worked in fast food for five years, I know the number one rule is to never comment on how business is going! Don’t even ask if it’s been busy or slow! Just don’t! Don’t worry ever describe how business has been or predict how it will go! Moments later a nonstop rush will come and ruin your day and no knocking on wood will save you! I have also seen a TikTok in which an ER nurse warns people something along the lines of “it’s so quiet today” triggers a mass of people to rush into the building!

I don’t believe in most superstition! Luck and predicting the future just seems silly to me. I know some people fully believe in that stuff and that’s fine. I believe if you think you’ll get good or bad luck then anything that happens to prove it right confirms your belief. If I think I’m going to have bad luck because some cat walked past me, then the first bad thing that happens to me will just confirm it in my mind! But the same holds true for good luck! I also refuse to believe you predict someone’s entire personality and future off of when they were born in the year. (Seriously, read my posts and predict my sign, I’ll wait.)

Even though I don’t believe in any other superstition, there’s just something about, “It’s really cold today and they’re predicting snow, so I think it’s going to be slow today,” that triggers the universe into sending a frenzy of smoothie-crazed addicts to the store all at once! I don’t understand it but anyone working any job dealing with serving or helping people knows you don’t talk about business!
