Stories Plus

Technically, we haven’t started building this yet, but it’s something we really look forward to building together when we finally get our own home.

My girlfriend is a very light sleeper and the two of us have anxiety and ADHD and she believes she might have autism as well, which leads to a lot of sensory issues. She finds that having someone touching or in the same bed as her is too much sometimes. As much as I totally respect that, I still want her to be in the same room with me one day. So, I thought of a bunk bed we could share together! Not just any bunkbed! The ultimate bunk bed!

The bottom half will be a full sized bed, since I went all out and got a memory foam mattress and I’m getting as much use out of that as I can! This way when we’re okay with touching and such, we have the bottom bunk to share! I prefer the bottom bunk anyway. I just don’t like being high up when I’m asleep! My girlfriend, however, prefers the top bunk! So she gets her own twin mattress up top! I want to incorporate shelves along the sides of the bed for the top and bottom. Some that slide closed so nothing falls down, and some that can stay open to use as a bedside table for the top bunk and the person on the inside.

Underneath the bottom bunk, is my favorite part! I originally thought of adding drawers for storage and having a small cubby for me to store my puzzles, but my girlfriend made it better! She suggested we make a roll out table for me to do my puzzles on so they stay safe and can easily clean up! Then, I found this video on YouTube shorts showcasing a cat maze under the bed and that just has to be our base! Our cat would love to explore a little maze under the bed and just play with toys or whatever!

I know it sounds like a lot of work and it might seem overly ambitious, but my girlfriend and her father have worked with wood before and I’m sure we can do this! It’s a fun project that we are both very excited about and I can’t wait to build it with her and enjoy our life together!
