If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?
I know this is going to get majorly political, but I need everyone to hear me out fully on this before you judge me. If I had the power to change any law, I would legalize abortion again.
I come from a traditional Catholic family in a conservative town. So, personally, if I ever got pregnant, even if I didn’t ask for it, I would keep it. I always make sure to let anyone I was with in the past know that was my plan and if he wasn’t willing to accept becoming a parent, it wasn’t going to happen. Even so, I understand everyone else’s choice.
My girlfriend and I personally don’t believe in getting abortions, but we also believe the government shouldn’t have a say in the matter. By banning abortions, they only get rid of every safe option. The current law only results in more deaths as young, scared women try to find other ways. What the government needs to do is provide proper education for all of the options.
I can sit here and describe everything I believe about abortion, but I know that won’t change people’s minds. Everyone is different and there’s nothing I can do to change that. But I firmly believe everyone should have all of the facts before making such a big decision. And I also believe the options shouldn’t be limited to religious beliefs. Every situation is different. Everyone grows up in different households with different views.
While I personally feel as if every conceived child deserves a chance, I know and accept that it isn’t my choice. No matter what, people are going to die. I just believe that the option should be given to the mother and not some rich officials. And I also believe that partners should talk about it before anything happens! It doesn’t matter how careful you are, there’s always a chance. Even getting a vasectomy doesn’t guarantee he can’t get a girl pregnant. Life is full of rare and unexpected outcomes and I feel it’s important for couples to communicate what they want to do just in case.
