What were your parents doing at your age?
Currently, I am in my early 20’s. My parents met in college when they were 19. Around my age, they were graduating college and getting married. Next year, I’ll be the same age my mother was when I was born. It’s kind of crazy to think that when they were my age, they were getting a house together, my father had just gotten a stable career as an engineer, and they were starting a family together.
Just a couple of years ago, it bothered me how close to their age I was getting without really having my life together; despite everyone telling me that we’re in a new age that makes it harder to really “get it together.” Then, I moved out of their house with my now girlfriend and we’re already planning our wedding. I found my soulmate and she’s graduating college this year and already has a job lined up. I’m focusing my time on my dreams of becoming a full-time writer and getting myself out there.
While my idea of life is very different from my parents and it may not be on the same time-line. I may have planned most of the wedding, but I know my girlfriend isn’t quite ready yet. She hasn’t even come out to her very religious parents yet. That’s all fine, we’re not entirely in the best place to be starting a life yet financially anyway. I’m a bit of a planner though and started thinking of the perfect wedding for the two of us, which she knows about and is somewhat relieved she won’t have to do any of the work once we do decide to get married.
Overall, I’m happy with how my life is now. Even if it’s a little stressful at times! I’m doing what I love.
