Best Moments at Work

Work can be very stressful at times, especially working fast food. If remaining on your feet running around to complete all the orders in the middle of a rush while being short-staffed isn’t enough, there are the rude customers. Luckily, there are a few moments that just make it all worth it.

First of all, you always have the banter with the other coworkers and eventually develop some sort of familial bond. Some of my favorites include “flirting” with one of my coworkers who is basically the “youngest sibling” and doesn’t like compliments so we make fun of her by saying nice things to her. Today, we were talking about Harry Potter Houses and one of my coworkers said at first she thought I was a Ravenclaw but as she got to know me, I’m more of a squib! I also had a coworker back when I first started working here who had the joking “I’m all that” energy and when she said she was cool, I told her “only wannabes say their cool.” It isn’t much but they create fond me memories!

Second, you have strange incidents! One day one of my coworkers found a shopping cart behind the store and brought it inside. She started using it to refill powders and such and wanted to keep it, so the shift leader decided to stick it on top of the ice machine! I came in at 6:30 the next morning to find a shopping cart on top of the ice machine! I had to stop everything and just appreciate the humor. It stayed up there for almost 2 months! Until the owner decided to sell the store and we had to take it down.

Then of course, you have some of the customers. The regulars who you get to know and get to know you! One of ours just became a grandma! You can joke around with them and have some wonderful banter. If you stay long enough you get to watch little ones grow as they come with their parents. There are also the new customers who are all sweet and you get to work with to find just the right smoothie for them. The best part is watching them come back and getting to know more about them! A lot of the regulars know just how hard we work and leave a tip for us which just makes our work a little bit better.
