I’d like to begin this with a funny story from yesterday I wanted to tell but never actually wrote down. My doctor refilled my prescription for my anxiety meds last week and yesterday I finally had a chance to go get it. I was surprised to find out I only had to pay 83¢ until I got home. There was one pill in the bottle! I’m still so confused! One pill isn’t going to last me anything! Maybe like a day depending on how well the day goes. I plan to call my doctor and see what’s going on but until then I get to ponder how I ended up with only a single pill in an entire bottle.

Today, during my first job at the smoothie bar, I ended up falling asleep and didn’t wake up until 7 minutes before my alarm to leave went off so I didn’t have time to make myself breakfast. I stopped for a coffee and bagel along the way and the person in front of me paid for my breakfast which set today in a more positive direction. Except, I didn’t have time to enjoy my breakfast. Friday’s are the busiest and it was almost nonstop all day! I finally got a short break around 11 today and went to the back to try to eat my bagel. I managed to eat almost half of it before another customer came through the drive thru. Very distracted by my last bite of bagel-half, I end up ringing in the order up front while I’m chewing and then go to wash my hands. After making the smoothie, I went to cash the guy out and he holds out his phone to scan for his points and says “does anyone feel like working today?” I couldn’t tell if he was being sarcastically rude or attempting humor, but my first thought was the truth: “No, we do not!”

I spoke with no hesitation or remorse. He was not expecting this! He ended up bursting into laughter and mumbled “well, if you’re going to be honest with me.” I kind of laughed it off a little before pouring his smoothie and wishing him a pleasant day (as I always do). He left smiling which surprised my coworker since he seemed to be in a bad mood yesterday. He’s a regular so I should have known who it was by the order but my scattered brain could only think of bagel.

My little quip ended up being overshadowed when I realized my coworker was in the back taking a large order over the phone just to have 16 smoothies print up front! SIXTEEN! These orders are usually for college sports teams and most are courteous enough to give us a few day’s notice so we have more people staffed to handle the order, but some give us the order an hour before they want/need it and then don’t tip or anything. Sometimes they complain about how we don’t deliver, but we can’t if we don’t have the staff.

It kind of ended up a complete frantic mess with all three of us running around for an hour trying to complete this order along with the rush of people coming inside the store (despite it being 37 F [3 C] degrees out) and the drive thru. They didn’t even show up for it! I left over an hour after we finished the order and they weren’t there! We gave them an estimated time frame and they just didn’t come.

Nothing else particularly interesting happened the rest of the day. Except the kid I was babysitting didn’t want to go to the playground or the library after therapy. I asked multiple times and all she said was “not now. Mama.” So we just went to the gas station and waited in the car for her mother. She got very excited and started bouncing around in her seat asking me to open the car door once her mother finally arrived.
