The ADHD Life

Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.

I live with ADHD so a lot of smaller menial tasks tend to get swept under the rug. For example, brushing my teeth has a tendency to be looked over after a long day of working two jobs and cooking dinner. The only thing on my mind at the end of the day is sleeping.

The biggest struggle, though, is doing laundry. I have a tendency to just let it pile up for more than a week until I’ve run out of underwear or socks. Still, I manage to get it done eventually when I have free time, but folding my laundry happens about once every other month when I have clothes piled around every chair or the end of my bed. By then I’m basically living around clean clothes. I even bought a second laundry basket (that only I use) just for clean clothes. Now it’s just filled with all the clothes and sheets I refuse to put back in my closet. It’s not that I hate to put away my clothes, it just takes a lot to actually fold and put them all away.

My car is a disaster. It was given to me four years ago after my father had it for over ten. It was given to me with a bunch of stuff thrown about in the back from when we children made a mess we never cleaned; including movie theatre popcorn that spilled in the backseat. Many times, I have told myself I am going to clean out my car, but to this day it is filled with crumbs from snacking children and take-out bags from my quick lunches between shifts. I also need to clean the outside of my car. It hasn’t been washed in years but I have never gotten around to it. I do clean out enough to allow other passengers to sit in the vehicle but I haven’t gotten to actively cleaning out every nook and cranny yet.
